UPDWG Webinar Featuring PSI Madagascar and Aerial Metric

Title: Generating the evidence base for the use of drones in distributing health commodities and vaccines to last mile communities in Madagascar

The Ministry of Public Health and PSI Madagascar have been delivering health commodities (malaria, family planning, HIV, maternal and child health) and vaccines to last mile and remote areas by drones since 2019 in five regions of the country. The project is in the stage of demonstrating evidence, to help answer the question to what degree does investment in drone-based logistics strengthen public health outcomes in remote communities; and how can this be scaled up cost-effectively. For this activity, PSI Madagascar works closely with University of North Carolina and Innovations for Poverty Action. During the webinar, PSI Madagascar will explain achievements and challenges since 2019, the engagement of the government through the Ministry of Public Health, and the evidence generation strategy while AerialMetric will explain the technical side of drone operations.

Daniel Crapper, PSI Madagascar, Country Representative
With over 20 years of experience working in public health interventions across Africa and Asia, he is focused on building the business case for government, donors and other partners to make investments in and advocate for drones in national health financing forums and identify opportunities for scaling the interventions.

Sandrah Hasina Rahantanirina, PSI Madagascar, Drone Project Manager,
Sandrah’s background is Science, Technology and Project Management with six years of experience in monitoring and evaluation and project management. She is intimately engaged in the design, planning and roll out of the project at the field level, and managing donor and government relations at the national and international level. She is passionate about this project as a way to save people’s life in hard-to-reach communities.
